BOLLYWOOD ROUNDUP Bollywood continued to be mired in controversy this year with actress Jiah Khan's suicide, Sanjay Dutt's return to jail, SRK-Salman's hug on Eid and SRK facing allegation of sex determination over the birth of his third child through surrogacy.
The biggest controversy in Bollywood this year was Jiah's suicide, which sent shock waves in the film fraternity.
The 25-year-old actress, best known for her roles opposite Amitabh Bachchan in 'Nishabd' and with Aamir Khan in 'Ghajini', was found hanging at her flat in suburban Mumbai in June this year.
While the police claimed it was a case of suicide, Jiah's mother Rabiya Khan alleged that it was not suicide and sought police to probe the angle of murder. According to police, Jiah had taken the harsh step over her soured relationship with Suraj Pancholi, son of Aditya Pancholi.
A six-page suicide note by Jiah talking about her relationship with Suraj landed him in jail. After spending over 20 days in jail, Suraj was released on bail.
On work front, he is signed for the remake version of 'Hero' by Salman Khan and Subhash Ghai.
Another talking point in the industry this year was the hug shared between friends-turned-foes Shah Rukh and Salman at an 'iftaar' party, which led everyone to believe that the two warring Khans were on their way to mending their relationship.
But it seems too much was read by everyone on this incident as it was just a goodwill gesture and not a move to end the animosity.
Salman, recently on a chat show with Karan Johar, had said that it was a goodwill gesture from his side on Eid.
The two actors had turned foes after a spat at Katrina Kaif's birthday party in 2008. Since then both have always avoided each other at public forums.
SRK secretly went for a third child through surrogacy but the actor faced allegation that he had gone for an illegal prenatal sex determination test.
A social activist filed a complaint against Shah Rukh and his wife Gauri. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) initiated an enquiry into the matter and gave a clean chit to the star couple.
Shah Rukh said that they had not gone for a sex determination test and the child was already born prematurely. They wanted to keep the birth a secret till the newborn was of good health. But the news got out early.
"AbRam is my best production. I think it was unfair for people to know half-truth and talk about it but I don't hold it against anyone," Shah Rukh had told INN Live.
"It is depressing and sad that someone who has just entered this world is subjected to my life. I would like him to be untouched by the world as much as possible," said SRK, who is already a father of of two children - Aryan and Suhana.
SRK's third child, a baby boy named AbRam, was born through surrogacy in May this year and became a controversy after reports of illegal prenatal sex determination test emerged.
The 'Dabangg' Khan - Salman was in headlines after a group of fishermen claimed that the actor forcefully tried to evict them from the vicinity of his newly acquired sea facing cottage in Bandra.
The fishermen alleged that the actor, his father Salim Khan and their bodyguards allegedly threatened them to shift their boats and fishing nets from the beach, since these things blocked their sea view.
Meanwhile, the 'Munnabhai' of Bollywood, actor Sanjay Dutt in May surrendered before a local court here to undergo his remaining 42 months out of the five year sentence awarded to him for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
Dutt was convicted by a TADA court for illegally possessing a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle which was part of a consignment of weapons and explosives brought to India for carrying out coordinated serial blasts that killed 257 people and injured over 700 in 1993.
Real life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif's attempt to hide their romance from public didn't succeed as they got snapped at a beach while holidaying in Spain.
Soon after the photos went viral, Katrina created a storm by issuing a statement and calling the whole episode as a breach of privacy.
Ranbir, however, has gone on record saying Katrina holds a special place in his life but has stopped short of confirming his relationship status in media.
"There is so much being said about my personal life. I don't want my life to become a reality show. Katrina is a very special part of my life," Ranbir had told INN Live.
While Katrina, talking about her reaction on photograph, said, "I saw the photos and reacted from the heart at that moment. I was upset, hurt and angry. I feel it was a private moment... So privacy was expected."
Actress Mallika Sherawat continued to hog limelight with her statements that India "regressive for women" and a "depressing" place to be and then calling BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as the most eligible bachelor in the country.
A spot boy was arrested in connection with stalking and trespassing at actress Shruti Haasan's house in suburban Bandra. She is the daughter of noted actor Kamal Haasan and Sarika.
